Tips voor het aanbrengen van highlighter

The weather is slowly getting colder and gloomier, and so is our skin. Luckily, there are all sorts of tricks to give your skin the shine it deserves. Our favorite trick? Highlighter! With the right highlighter, you can give your look exactly what it needs: a natural glow. So how and where do you apply it?

What is a highlighter?
A highlighter is a product that adds shine to your makeup look. You emphasize a specific area by applying a shine there. For example, you can make your eyes appear larger by applying highlighter to the inner corners, or your face can look slimmer when applied to your cheekbones. But more on that later!

Different types of highlighters
There are various types of highlighters. They differ in color, undertone, shimmer, and also in texture. You can find highlighters in powder, liquid, or cream form. Depending on your skin type, you can choose your favorite. If you have oily skin, a powder highlighter is a better choice. For drier skin? A liquid highlighter can sit beautifully on your skin.

Just like all other makeup, highlighters come in an endless array of shades and colors. They often have a pink or yellow undertone and a silver, gold, or pearlescent color. Having trouble finding your ideal highlighter? If you have a cool undertone in your skin, it's best to go for a highlighter with pink or silver tones. Do you have a warm undertone? Then yellow or gold highlighters will suit you best.

Where and how to apply highlighter?
Highlighters emphasize certain areas of your face and can actually be applied almost anywhere. Want bigger eyes? Highlighter. Want to make your lips pop? Yes, highlighter! To help you out, here are the most common places to apply it:

  1. On your cheekbones for a beautiful, natural shine.
  2. On the bridge or tip of your nose to make it look slimmer.
  3. That little dip above your lip, the cupid's bow, makes your lips stand out more.
  4. On your brow bone for bigger eyes and a fresh look.
  5. In your inner corner for bigger eyes and a fresh look.
  6. On the tip of your chin for a beautiful, natural shine.

Feel free to experiment with this, that's the fun part! Play around with the color, the placement, and do what you think looks best. You can apply the highlighter with a special brush (the fanbrushor just with your fingers. Again, just try it out and see what works best for you.

Have fun!
