Slowly, we can start exercising again, and from July 1, our favorite gym is open again. So, no more excuses, let’s hit the gym! It’s a good time to figure out if working out with makeup on is really as bad as they say.
Clogged pores
We don’t need to tell you that sweat is a big enemy for a full face makeup look. Sweating is inevitable during exercise and does more harm than good to your look. An additional downside is that your pores open up when your body temperature rises. The makeup you worked so hard on disappears into the pores, which can lead to blockages and imperfections. So, it’s better to skip a full makeup look, just in case.
So how can you do it?
Don’t like going to the gym without makeup? It’s understandable if you don’t feel comfortable without it. In that case, we have a few tips to minimize the damage as much as possible.
- Just curling your lashes changes your entire eye look, and nothing will run. Win-win.
- Want to use mascara anyway? Then opt for a waterproof one, like this one from Gosh. No one wants a smudged eye look at the end of the workout.
- Eyebrow gel is a must. This gel keeps your eyebrows in place while you exercise. This one is our favorite.
- Apply a layer of tinted lip balm to create the illusion of lipstick. The lip balm from Sleek gives a beautiful color and contains SPF. A real winner for exercising.
- Can’t live without foundation? Look for one that’s mineral-based. These are full of ingredients that won’t clog your skin. Of course, a natural look is best, but this is a good alternative.
- Always make sure to remove your makeup as soon as possible after your workout. Cleanse your face thoroughly and reapply your makeup if necessary. Don’t leave it on!
- Exercising outdoors? Don’t forget to protect your skin. A cream with SPF can’t hurt in that case.
The good news is that exercising with makeup won’t cause lasting damage. It’s not great for your skin and can lead to imperfections, but in the long run, it doesn’t do much harm. That’s a relief!
Our advice? It’s not super bad, but it’s best to skip makeup altogether when you’re working out. If you still want to wear something, minimize it with our tips. Don’t make it too hard on yourself; you’re beautiful without makeup too.
