Wat is vet haar en hoe kom je er vanaf (+5 handige tips!)

Unfortunately, we all have to deal with it: greasy hair. Some people experience it more quickly than others, but certain factors cause everyone to have greasier hair. Not the most pleasant for our look. We have gathered tips so that we can all fight our greasy hair together.

This is greasy hair
What makes our hair greasy is actually sebum. Our scalp has sebaceous glands that provide our hair with certain substances that keep it smooth and healthy. So thankfully, they are there for a reason. But when this process is out of balance, it produces too much sebum, making our hair greasy. To combat greasy hair, our sebum production needs to be balanced. Fortunately, we have some influence over that ourselves.

The causes of greasy hair
There are various causes that influence our sebum production. For example, stress, hormones, your menstrual cycle, puberty, or unhealthy eating. These factors are generally a bit harder to tackle. But besides hormonal fluctuations, the care we give to our skin and hair can also have a significant impact. When you use the wrong products or care for your hair incorrectly, it becomes greasy much faster. But luckily, we have a lot of influence over that. Below, we share our best tips.

  • Wash your hair less often

You've probably heard this many times, but we understand that this is a difficult process. But believe us, with patience, you can go a long way. Do you have to go from washing every day to just once a week all at once? Absolutely not! Try to gradually reduce it. Start by washing every other day, for example. Once your hair is used to that, you can add another day in between. Oh, and our secret for those extra days? Dry shampoo! Seriously, with dry shampoo, it becomes so much easier to postpone washing for another day.

  • Use natural care products

Chemical substances have a negative effect on our scalp and hair. Therefore, always opt for a natural shampoo and conditioner that positively influence the care of your hair. For example, try this OGX shampoo with Tea Tree, a natural product that is good for your scalp. And a healthy scalp equals healthier hair.

  • Touch your hair as little as possible

Every time you touch your hair, redo a strand, or run your hand through your hair, you transfer dirt from your hands to your hair. Each time, it becomes a bit greasier. So try to touch your hair as little as possible. To make this easier, you can wear your hair up, in a bun or a ponytail. This way, it also stands out less when it’s greasy!

  • Use as few styling products as possible

Products like mousse or hairspray can make your hair greasy faster. So be careful with this. Try to let your hair air dry as much as possible to keep the natural processes intact. And use as few styling products as possible that negatively affect our sebum production.

  • Change your pillowcase regularly

Your pillowcase is the piece of fabric that your hair touches the most and for the longest time. We often don’t realize this, but if you don’t change it often enough, you can pick up a lot of bacteria and dirt from your pillowcase. Not great for your skin or your hair. So change your pillowcase regularly to ensure your hair doesn’t get greasy or dirty as quickly.

As you can see, there are fortunately many factors that we can influence ourselves. With these tips, you should be able to prevent greasy hair more effectively. Be patient and stay consistent, and it will really work out. Good luck!
